Trust Initiatives

As a Trust there are many ways our schools work together both day-to-day and on projects for the benefit of all schools within our Trust.  This allows our schools to share expertise for the benefit of our pupils and staff development.

Current Projects

Brass Roots

Staploe Education Trust and Soham Comrades Band were delighted to launch their new music project, “Brass Roots” in the final weekend of September. The vision of this collaborative project is to increase the number of young people playing a brass instrument both within the Trust’s schools and the local community.

Staploe Education Trust are eager to offer all students the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, brass and orchestral instruments generally. An aim of the project is to raise enough money to purchase instruments for a full year group in each primary school, and deliver whole-class brass instrument sessions as part of the music curriculum in our schools. The tuition is to be free of charge and accessible for all.

If you have an old brass instrument at home that is no longer played or needed then we would be incredibly grateful to receive it as part of this project.  Please do contact Gemma Perry, the Director of Music for Staploe Education Trust by emailing: gperry@soham-college.org.uk if you think you can help in any way.

Cambridge University Museums

Working in partnership with the Cambridge University Museums, our curriculum will include teaching from museum objects to enhance learning across the curriculum.  In particular, this museum learning partnership will build:

  • cultural capital and cultural literacy
  • confidence in handling and observing objects through development of Slow Looking
  • oracy, dialogue and discourse
  • vocabulary enrichment and development
  • aspiration about jobs and world of work as a result of opportunities within the museum sector
  • positive experiences of museums to encourage a lifelong love of learning

Pye Foundation

Staploe Education Trust has received a generous donation from the Pye Foundation to develop a programme of STEM related topics, with the aim at exciting older primary school pupils and enthusing them to undertake further studies in STEM subjects, and ultimately to consider the possibilities of careers in related areas.  As part of this project Staploe Education Trust is working with all our schools to purchase resources, organise activities and visits, and gain specialist input which will deliver high quality STEM experiences and learning for our pupils in Years 5 & 6 over a three-year programme.
